Here we are at crossroads again with our beloved online scammers. I have been selling and buying for some time now on Facebook’s new feature, the Marketplace. It’s so much better than using Gumtree as you are dealing with real people with real friends.
Recently I decided to upgrade my PC system to be able to handle the photo and possibly video editing. I found a great deal on the Marketplace for a GTX 1080 TI priced at £350. This wasn’t too low to be “to good to be true” as most of the other listing were ranging between £380-£450.
Original Post

So I get in contact with Lewis and request for a delivery if the card was still available. The seller confirms it’s available and will be happy to post which he also requested to use the Friends and Family option via PayPal. I knew this was dodgy but there are still genuine people out there so I took the chance. I send money via paypal BUT using my credit card (not so dumb after all!).
The following days Lewis was acting the concerned seller and asking if there had been post. He had also, somehow, forgot to keep his receipt to provide tracking. As the days go by, the seller requested we continue the chat via DMs as the item will be removed. The reason this was done was because you can only report sellers via the original listing - fear not I took screenshots of everything!
My next move will be to do a call back via my bank so no worries there. This post is more of a warning for others and to exploit the scum for what he is - a scammer. I can confirm this as other’s have come forward that they sent money FOR THE SAME ITEM. Imagine how much money he has accumulated from just one item. I did notice he also had a Go pro for sale but that was removed too.
The scammer goes by the name Lewis Dixon from Leeds (could be from Corby). He also works as a scaffolder at Rilmac Scaffolding in Lincoln. (Called his worked and confirmed this information). Lewis also goes by the alias Lewis Burton (possibly to throw people off when they google the name). My payment was sent to an email linked to Adrian Moss so that could be a co scammer or an alias.
I also have his IP address registered to Sky Broadband as he visited my website.
I also have his contact number if you need it for your report PM me.
Uses the following email addresses and aliases:
Lewis Dixon - lewwix88@gmail.com
Lewis Burton - lewwisb88@gmail.com
Lewis Jacob - gtrfan661@gmail.com
Adrian Moss - adriann8899@gmail.com
Facebook Marketplace - There is a flaw in the system; you can only report a seller via the original listing. Once the listing is gone, there is no other way. You should be able to search by user via the market place - a simple feature Facebook needs to implement. Sellers kill time by moving on to private messages so they can remove post. There are no other ways of reporting users even if you have access to their profile.
Good luck everyone! Stay safe and NEVER send money via Friends and Family via Paypal or Bank Transfer. Repeat after me, “NEVER send money via Friends and Family via Paypal or Bank Transfer”
If you must use PayPal, do it via your credit card.
